Homeless Support Officer- Social Housing (Temp Ongoing)

One of our social housing clients are looking for a Homeless Support Officer to work in their North London Offices on a temp ongoing basis.
The role of this department is to provide a temporary accommodation service and homelessness casework management service for clients who the council has a statutory homelessness responsibility for. The ideal candidate will provide a co-ordinated end to end approach to homeless casework for vulnerable people and families.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role are as follows

1. To manage a case load of homeless applicants where the council has accepted a statutory responsibility including issuing discharge of duty letters.
2. To provide a move on service, prioritising households for offers of suitable settled accommodation.
3. To provide a housing management service for residents in temporary accommodation, including income recovery, property inspections and health and safety.
4. To identify and refer cases where fraud is suspected.
5. To liaise with other teams within the company
6. To work with a wide range of external agencies, including Registered Social Landlords and the private and voluntary sectors.
7. To use mechanisms and protocols with Targeted and Specialist Children and Families Service and Adult Social Services, for effective liaison, for discharging statutory joint obligations and duties, and to ensure a seamless service for vulnerable clients
8. To ensure responsibilities with regard to the safeguarding of adults at risk and children are met.
9. To meet the support needs of vulnerable adults in temporary accommodation by referring to the appropriate floating support services, targeting those who have no support network.
10. To be responsible for carrying out visits and interviewing relevant persons in order to assist in the resettlement of statutory homeless clients.
11. To acquire evidence or data ensuring compliance with the law and best practice.
12. Obtain and write statements from witnesses under the Criminal Justice Act 1967.


1. To ensure that all services are provided in accordance with the Council’s commitment to improving service provision to customers/clients.
2. To use or assist others to use Information Technology systems to carry out duties in the most efficient and effective manner.
3. To ensure that the housing services which are provided are appropriate to the needs of the people of Islington, particularly disadvantaged groups, in accordance with Equal Opportunities Dignity for All Policy.
4. To carry out responsibilities with due regard to the Equal Opportunities Employment Policy.
5. Perform any other reasonable minor and non recurring duties, appropriate to the post, as determined by the Agreed Homeless Team Manager.
6. To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
7. Ensure all the services within the area(s) of responsibility are provided in accordance with the Council’s commitment to high quality service provision to users.
8. Ensure that duties are undertaken with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.
9. Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the clients health and safety policy& Health and Safety legislation.

The ideal candidate will have social housing/lettings or Homeless Officer experience. This role may close early due to this being an urgent requirement.

This role is working Monday-Friday 7 hours per day (9am-5pm). This role is temporary ongoing until approx June 2019 and is paying up to £16.49 GBP per hour.
